This is an example of a painting that started as a multi-colored underpainting and then sat in my studio for almost a month while I tried to figure out what it was going to be. Finally one day I turned it upside down, and the figures appeared almost immediately. I outlined them in soft pastel, and the composition took shape needing only, you know, all the detailed painting stuff. But that’s the fun part, the hard part is seeing the figures in the first place. I’m really quite happy with how this turned out.
