This painting is an example of nothing ever being completely, totally finished until it actually leaves the premises. This started out as a coastal scene, became a lakeside scene, morphed into a field scene (where it stayed for some months) before changing again into a mountain scene. None of those versions seemed to really work, so I went to it one more time with a couple of tubes of paint, a brush, and some paper towels, which are my latest go-to for vigorous mark-making when I really feel like showing the canvas I mean business. And now here it is. Finished. … for the moment anyway.
