This was fun. I started with an entirely different maritime scene which wasn’t really working (it was just sort of ‘meh’), but what was working was the ocean, so I kept that and for some reason went over the sky with a few glazes of red. And then of course it needed some masts… and then I looked at it the next day and thought, “I really like that”. My life as an artist became easier when I figured out that it doesn’t really make much difference where you thought the painting was going when you started- if you get there and you don’t like it, just go in an entirely new direction and maybe something cool will happen. You never know, so don’t sweat the ‘meh’ moments..
