This started as a valley scene with a barn and some trees. That was going nowhere, so i started adding washes of color, and then added the figure from a vintage snapshot in my own collection. If you look closely on the left, you can see the hazy outline of the barn showing through the glazes. but now it’s a shadow, and you can still see tree branches on the right. The trick with this one was knowing when to stop, which is why I don’t try to finish a work in one sitting. I came back to this one morning and realised that I had nothing to add that was going to improve it, so I stopped. I liked this enough to keep it here in my own collection, but I wanted to share it with you on the website.
